Our Story

Florida Ice and Farm Company (FIFCO) was born in 1908 in La Florida de Siquirres, province of Limón, Costa Rica. It was founded by 4 siblings of Jamaican origin, the Lindo Morales brothers, as a company dedicated to agriculture and ice manufacturing. More than 100 years later we have diversified our portfolio to more than 1,500 products, we are +5,500 employees and we export to 16 countries around the world.

  • Florida Ice & Farm Company (FIFCO) is founded in Florida de Siquirres, a small town in the province of Limón, Costa Rica. It was founded by 4 siblings of Jamaican origin, the Lindo Morales brothers, as a company dedicated to agriculture and ice manufacturing.

  • In 1912, the Lindo brothers acquired Cervecería y Refresquería Traube (they had been producing Pilsen beer since 1888). From then on, FIFCO was dedicated to the beverage business, through its main operation, later known as Cervecería Costa Rica.

  • Imperial, Costa Rica's leading beer, and Bavaria, the premium beer brand, are created.

  • Heineken’s production and commercialization license is obtained. Later Heineken becomes a partner acquiring 25% of the company's shares.

  • FIFCO ventures in the tourism-oriented real estate business in the province of Guanacaste, with Reserva Conchal and Papagayo.

  • The Cristal bottled water brand is launched.

  • The innovative Tropical refreshment proposal is created.

  • FIFCO enters the flavored alcoholic beverages category with Smirnoff Ice.

  • Diversification continues with the purchase of Industrias Alimenticias Kern's, in Guatemala.

  • We enter the carbonated beverage business through a Pepsico Inc. brand franchise in Costa Rica.

  • We adopted the innovative Triple Bottom Line strategy, adding value in 3 dimensions: social, economic and environmental.

  • We entered the wine and spirits business, adding an important portfolio of internationally recognized brands.

  • We entered the Retail business through the acquisition of the Musmanni bakery chain and later, in the Musi convenience store format.

  • FIFCO marked a milestone by acquiring the main independent brewing company in the United States: North American Brewery (NAB), today FIFCO USA.

  • We discovered our purpose "We share with the world a better way of living". This unites us and defines the reason why our company exists.

  • We enter the Mexican market with the Seagrams Escapes brand.

  • FIFCO transcends by developing the sustainability strategy and goals to the world-class ESG model.

  • We incorporate the vision of Expansive Sustainability, seeking innovative solutions to social and environmental challenges, emphasizing creativity, systemic thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration and continuous learning to develop comprehensive and sustainable approaches.

Ingresamos al negocio Retail a través de la adquisición de la cadena de panaderías Musmanni y más adelante, en el formato de tiendas de conveniencia Musi.
