- “Healthy Lifestyles” virtual platform
- More than 6,900 students have already completed their community service
Tenth- and eleventh-grade high school students who wish to perform their Student Community Service virtually now have a new option to fulfill this graduation requirement.
This is the new safe mobility module that has been added to the “Healthy Lifestyles” virtual platform, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Public Education (MEP), in partnership with Florida Ice & Farm Co. (FIFCO) and the collaboration of Grupo Purdy.
In this new module, students will learn to explore fundamental concepts of road safety, the risks associated with unsafe practices, and everyday actions that can save the lives of pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, or themselves as future drivers.
The safe mobility module offers six specific topics, each with training exercises that must be completed in order to advance and complete the module:
- Safe, sustainable, and accessible mobility
- Pedestrians
- Bicycles
- Motorcycles
- Cars
- Public transportation
Since the creation of the “Healthy Lifestyles” platform in 2020, more than 6,900 students have completed their community service thanks to this resource. The platform maintains its virtual structure and is developed through a self-training system that allows each student to advance at their own pace.
Once the learning phase in any of these modules is complete, participants must develop and execute a final project in order to receive their certificate of completion, with the fulfillment of the 30 hours corresponding to the Student Community Service.
“This initiative strengthens collective awareness about the importance of road safety. The student population will have the opportunity to design and implement projects in their communities aimed at creating more inclusive spaces and promoting safer and more responsible mobility,“ said Jacqueline Badilla Jara, MEP’s Student Life Director.
”At Grupo Purdy, we want everyone to arrive safely at their destinations. For us, moving safely is also a way of taking care of ourselves and others. We are excited to join this platform to share with students the tools they need to identify risks, prevent road accidents, and promote safe mobility from an early age,“ added Ana María Sequeira, Director of Corporate Relations and Sustainability at Grupo Purdy.
”At FIFCO, we firmly believe in the transformative power of education to build more resilient and sustainable communities. In a visionary move, during the pandemic we designed a virtual learning platform together with the MEP that continues to grow and evolve today. Thanks to strategic alliances such as the one we have with Grupo Purdy, we have expanded our content offering with new modules such as ‘Safe Mobility,’ which reinforce our commitment to the comprehensive well-being of students,” said Maria Pía Robles, FIFCO’s Director of Corporate Relations.
