Prostate and testicular cancer survivors share their testimonies to raise awareness about the disease

  • Testimonies are part of the “Es por mis compas” (It’s for my buddies) initiative, which seeks to promote good habits, prevention and early detection of the disease.

San José, November 17, 2022. A group of prostate and testicular cancer survivors, as well as experts in medical sciences, share their testimonies and practical tips to prevent and detect the disease in time.

Six episodes of 7 minutes on average are available online for you to listen and share with your friends, all aimed at raising awareness. They are also available on the Youtube channel.

During November, 4 prostate and testicular cancer surviving patients share their experience fighting the disease in the “Es por mis Compas” podcast.

Each podcast was hosted by producer Diego Barracuda, who spoke with each survivor to reveal details of this difficult process and the importance of having a support network such as friends and family. We also had the participation of two medical specialists, each speaking from their own medical perspective about the disease and the treatments available in the country.

Andrea Quirós, Pilsen brand manager, commented “The cancer survivors were selected in two ways, some profiles were referred directly by Hospital México and other profiles came out of an open call made by Pilsen so that its consumers could also participate and share their story, all having a very special overcoming story to tell. Regarding the health specialists, both are doctors at Hospital México, one of them is a psycho-oncologist, a cancer specialist, and the other is a specialist in radiation oncology,” she concluded.

Nine years of support

Since the creation of this campaign, Pilsen has donated US$175,000 to Hospital México to remodel several areas that care for patients diagnosed with cancer, their families and friends, has mobilized over 1,500 volunteers in more than 12,000 volunteer hours, and has reached more than 1.2 million people per year, carrying this cancer awareness message.

Each year, Pilsen in collaboration with Hospital Mexico reviews new proposals to determine major needs and allocate the funds raised from the campaign to benefit cancer patients and their families.

In 2022, Pilsen will again be donating funds for the remodeling and adaptation of new areas in the hospital.
