- Elegí Ayudar and GreenWolf Costa Rica fostered an alliance with local partners and stakeholders.
- The event brought together 70 volunteers to clean up and recycle waste.
Through its Elegí Ayudar (I Chose to Help) volunteer program, FIFCO and GreenWolf Costa Rica, in partnership with the Salvador Ramírez company, KFC Costa Rica, and the Guacalillo-Bajamar Integral Development Association, organized an environmental volunteer day at Playa Guacalillo in Puntarenas. The activity, held on August 21, brought together 70 volunteers with the aim of contributing to the recovery of this area of the Costa Rican Pacific coast.
As a result of the collective effort, 127 kilograms of waste were collected and transferred to a container with more material, where the group of volunteers separated and packaged the materials extracted from the oceans. A total of 720 kilograms were sorted and sent to the Pedregal plant, where they will be transformed into Resin8, a raw material made from regenerated plastics to produce concrete and prefabricated products. Additionally, 294 kilograms were stored in the container to be sent in September as part of the continuation of this effort.
This series of actions—collection, separation, packaging, and processing—reflects a circular economy model in practice, which seeks to reduce the environmental impact caused by decades of waste accumulation on beaches and in mangroves. The degradation of these ecosystems affects local biodiversity and limits the area’s tourism potential, which is why initiatives like this are essential for their regeneration.
The event reaffirms Elegí Ayudar’s commitment to providing collaborators and strategic allies with the opportunity to actively experience sustainability, generating a positive and tangible impact on communities and ecosystems. Under the vision of expansive sustainability, this action demonstrates that environmental protection is a shared responsibility among companies, organizations, communities, and individuals.
The effort was made possible thanks to the support of GreenWolf Costa Rica, an organization that has established itself as a comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable movement that promotes the country’s socio-ecosystemic recovery through action and cross-sector partnerships. The event in Playa Guacalillo represents another step toward the regeneration of coastal areas affected by pollution and highlights the value of collaboration between the private sector, civil society, and organized communities.
