  • Six non-governmental organizations participated in the workshop with traditional recipes and tools to improve food services for their beneficiaries.
  • The project developed between FIFCO and the Food Bank of Costa Rica benefits vulnerable populations in Guanacaste.

As part of the Tradiciones Compartidas (Shared Traditions) program developed by FIFCO in conjunction with the Costa Rican Food Bank, the second workshop of the project was held in Cañas, Guanacaste, with representatives from six non-governmental organizations that serve socially vulnerable populations in the region.

The activity brought together 10 people from different NGOs with a presence in the cantons of La Cruz, Cañas, Santa Cruz, Liberia, and Carrillo, which provide care to children, senior citizens, people in rehabilitation, and people living on the streets. Together, these organizations directly impact 285 beneficiaries in different localities in the province of Guanacaste.

During the workshop, held at the Food Bank headquarters in Cañas, participants learned how to prepare gallina achiotada, a recipe chosen especially for this edition, and received nutritional tools to strengthen the food assistance they offer in their communities.

Tradiciones Compartidas is a social impact project that brings together gastronomy, culture, and solidarity. It arose from the sale of a Costa Rican cookbook created by FIFCO, with proceeds going to the Costa Rican Food Bank to provide food donations to at-risk populations. To date, 9,987,000 colones have been donated, benefiting 9,455 people. This initiative is part of FIFCO’s Expansive Sustainability vision, which promotes collaborative solutions to major social challenges.

“This project rescues our country’s gastronomic wealth and at the same time strengthens the work of organizations that, day after day, provide food and care to hundreds of people, very much in line with our Expansive Sustainability philosophy. Tradiciones Compartidas is a clear example of how collaboration and creativity can generate sustainable solutions with a human impact,” said Maria Pía Robles, Director of Corporate Relations at FIFCO.

For her part, Francia Linares, Executive Director of the Costa Rican Food Bank, commented, “At the Costa Rican Food Bank, we deeply believe in the power of collaboration to generate sustainable change for people living in social vulnerability and poverty. The Tradiciones Compartidas project has allowed us to join forces with companies, social organizations, and communities, enabling us to not only provide food, but also share knowledge, culture, and hope.

We thank FIFCO for its vision and partnership in this project, and each participating organization for its dedication. Together, we are sowing seeds that feed much more than the body: they feed the soul and identity of our people”.

The program continues to establish itself as an initiative that transforms recipes into hope by connecting Costa Rican cuisine and culture with high-impact social causes.
